For my last full day in Tonsai, my new friend Colton and I decided to tackle another multipitch climb. Between the two of us we only had 1 55 meter rope, 1 ATC, 9 draws and 1 chalk bag. Not exactly sufficient, but the route sounded too good not to do so we decided we would somehow make it work. Through a combination of munter belays and back cleaning/skipping bolts we made it to the top.
This is a shot of one of the janky anchors consisting of sun weathered slings and an improperly tied munter hitch (don't worry, we fixed it).
A shot of me at the final belay ledge, belaying Colton up. I was half hanging inside the tunnel which would be our final pitch.
The last pitch which makes this route so popular is a 50 foot tunnel that goes straight through the mountain. Easy stemming and a few sketchy slings gets you to the top.
The view from the top was absolutely breathtaking. It was such a great way to end my 3 week adventure of climbing in Thailand. Climbing friends, if you're reading this we should maybe plan a trip here sometime in the not so distant future.
Today consisted of a hike across to Railay East, a boat to Krabi Town, a flight to Bangkok and a bus to my current hostel somewhere in the middle of Bangkok. After walking around for several hours I've concluded that Bangkok has nothing to offer me. It's a very big, noisy, dirty city. At least I can say I've been there now.
Tomorrow morning I take a flight to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to see what that place is all about.
